2011 Tax Information

January 5, 2011

To Our Valued Tax Clients:

It’s time again to organize your tax information. Here is a link to our pdf Tax Preparation Guideline to assist you. Use this form to your best advantage—you may print and fill out by hand, or, fill it out on your computer, save, and print for your appointment. You may also email your Guideline form back to us at info@hansensadvisory.com. If all the information for your return is on W-2s, 1099s, or other forms, it is not necessary to duplicate the information on the Tax Guideline. If you need more spaces than available on the Guideline, just list additional information on another sheet of paper.  Here are some 2011 updates that may be helpful to you while gathering your tax information.

When you are self-employed or rent real estate, you need to complete the information in numbers 6 & 7. If you own a home, have charitable donations, expenses as an employee, or medical expenses greater than 7½ % of your adjusted gross income, complete number 5. You will also need to complete number 5g if you have educational expenses as an employee.

At the end of the guideline, you will find listed documents to bring with you to your tax appointment in order for the tax preparation process to proceed efficiently.

We will be electronically filing all returns unless there is a requirement to file by paper. This means you will be receiving a copy of the forms for your records and the original forms will be sent electronically to the IRS and to NY State (or other appropriate States who accept electronic filing). This process not only saves a few trees but it catches common mistakes in your return before it is sent. It also shortens the time you have to wait for a refund check. If you are receiving a refund, you can have the amount deposited directly to your checking account. If you owe money, you can have the amount directly debited from your checking account.

We will be scheduling tax appointments up to and including April 10th. Please do not send us your returns after April 10th. After that time, we will be completing tax returns in process for the April 17th deadline. We cannot assure you any returns received after April 10th will be completed by April 17th.

If you have any questions, please call or email us.

Sincerely,

Susan S. Hansen
